These partnerships provided unique, experiential learning opportunities for visiting school or children/youth groups to provide unique opportunities only possible through co-development. This included my role as the Harbourfront Centre program lead for the annual Forest of Reading Festival, presented by the Ontario Library Association. This three day festival sees over 7000 students on campus to celebrate all things reading! In addition to my job duties, I was also the inaugural chair of the Harbourfront Centre Social Committee (2014-2024), acted as the inaugural internal lead for our IDEA+ Committee (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism 'Plus' Committee - 2022-2024) and was the Committee Chair of the How We Work Together Process Mapping Committee (2018-19), which spent 18 months assessing internal practices to improve outcomes for our Programming, Marketing and Development teams.
Manager, School Visits
School Visits is a hands-on, curriculum-focused, experiential learning program that uses the inquiry-based methodology to encourage students of all ages to build connections to contemporary arts and culture. We deliver programming to 26 000 students (or 1200 classes) each school year in Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Urban Studies. Connections to the Ontario Curriculum permeate our program design and delivery, as well as a commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom that allows all students to feel safe and supported in their creative risk-taking.As the Manager, School Visits, I oversee a team of four full time staff, 20-35 part time staff, as well as volunteers, interns and co-op students. I am responsible for staff recruitment, training and ongoing professional development, as well as all aspects of program development, delivery and evaluation. I work collaboratively with our Marketing and Creative Services and Digital Transformation teams to ensure outreach, awareness and promotion of the School Visits program remains top of mind for teachers looking for high quality field trip opportunities in the arts. In addition, I worked with our Finance and Development teams to ensure our programs are delivered not only on budget, but with a critical lens to the level of support we can offer to meet the diverse needs of our students.Whenever possible, we work with internal and external programming teams to develop programming that responds to exhibitions, performances and installations in and around our campus. As we continue to respond to the needs of teachers and students through the COVID-19 pandemic, a new program stream of digital offerings, including synchronous and asynchronous programming, has ensured we remain a valuable resource for Ontario classrooms.
Education Officer
As an Education Officer, I was one of two full time teachers in our School Visits team. As an Educator, I was responsible for daily set up, execution and clean up of Visual Arts, Urban Studies and Media Studies programs. This included delivering programming to a range of visiting students and school groups (from ages 3-21). I was responsible for all aspects of program delivery, including preparation of samples or exemplars, classroom management and curriculum awareness. I responded to the needs of diverse students attending our programming by adjusting the pace, expectations, teaching strategies and format of instruction to ensure all students were able to feel successful in my classroom
