I've had the pleasure of working with Ginger (now Headspace) for nearly a decade. During this time we've pivoted and evolved, but always w/ the goal of aligning technology and care to improve global mental health.I'm proud to lead our Care Engineering Department (25 employees across 3 squads), which is responsible for building and evolving our HIPAA Compliant Care Delivery Platform. Key components include our:- Proprietary Coaching and Clinical EHR (Care Hub)- Care Marketplace & Scheduling System- Revenue Cycle Management SystemWe are a full-stack team, responsible for frontend to infrastructure, including SRE, incident response, and the regulatory compliance of our products. Our pursuit of excellence is grounded in a collaborative & candid culture. We emphasize collaborative engineering design & implementation, thorough automated testing, optimized CI/CD pipelines, and measured production observability. The principle, "You can't manage what you can't measure" permeates our products and processes. This starts with business OKRs, is supported by system-level measures of quality and reliability, and extends to measures of planning accuracy and team velocity.I'm a servant leader who knows the best results come from a culture of trust & respect. This was a time of rapid growth; growing our clinical network to all 50 US states, and broadening our relationships and integrations with strategic health plans and employers.Our team was responsible for the entirety of our Distributed Care Delivery Platform, which included our:- Proprietary Coaching EHR- Third-party Clinical EHR Integration (we would later build & manager our own Clinical EHR)- Coach & Clinical Scheduling System- Eligibility & Referrals System - AI/ML Data Pipeline & Analytics SystemWe successfully managed two hosting migrations, ultimately adopting AWS (Fargate / ECS, RDS, CDK) as our platform of choice. We utilized standard design patterns and modern web & data technologies (TypeScript, React, Python, Django, Relational & Document DBs, and Message Queues) to enhance the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of our services. Concurrently, we evolved our development process from a purely agile approach to a more structured framework that balanced agility with tighter planning, predictability, and project management.

Led the architectural design and development of Ginger's Coaching service, "Listener". The service was initially hosted on Heroku and the stack consisted of: AngularJS, Python/Django, Celery/RabbitMQ, and PostgreSQL. From the outset, we prioritized observability & data-driven product development, integrating third-party tools such as Amplitude, New Relic, Sentry, and Papertrail. We prioritized data quality and built systems to streamline data verification & QA.In these years, Ginger functioned like an incubator, and we managed "Listener" as an independent startup. We reported weekly on KPIs, care quality metrics, and key financial indicators. Our methodology was akin to Kanban, prioritizing collaboration, continuous enhancement, and active user involvement.

CareIntel connects healthcare providers across the care continuum. Providing an event-based, centralized patient record that follows patients from acute to post-acute environments. I was responsible for the entirety of our HIPAA Compliant web-based product.

OnShift’s predictive software helps long-term care and senior living providers manage and optimize their workforce. I was the fifth employee to join the team in the winter of 2009. I became the head of product & engineering in 2010, and helped grow our offering to support 1000+ post-acute facilities. I oversaw a team of 12 (engineering, design, and QA), managed recruiting & retention, met w/ current and prospective clients, assisted in closing large sales opportunities, and reported to our CEO.

One of 3 engineers building Onshift's original labor management system; a web application using Python, Pylons (an MVC framework similar to Django), PostgreSQL, and originally jQuery (we eventually migrated to Backbone.js). I was a full-stack engineer responsible for both front & backend design & implementation. I profiled & fine-tuned Postgres, and took over responsibility for our Infrastructure (migrating us to off-prem dedicated host, Rackspace).

Litigation Management Inc. is a medical records retrieval and analysis company, focused on large, class-action lawsuits. I helped architect and build a work-flow engine to streamline medical record: request, intake, analysis and reporting (ASP.NET & SQL Server).

Summit Racing is a ~800 person company in the mid-west which sells after-market auto parts. Summit was initially a catalog / call center. I helped migrate Summit's online catalog and recommendation engine from classic ASP to ASP.NET.

Network Bookings was my first startup venture. A travel packaging web service aimed at small vacation destinations. I ultimately ran out of cash (my own cash), but I learned a lot about business, sales, and pragmatic software development along the way. I'm still learning : )
