Sometimes it takes a loved one who knows you well to speak into your life and direct you in a direction you never dreamed your life would take. This is what happened to me when a family member tipped me off to the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics shortly after I had scrapped my dream of having a career as an engineer. Ever since then, I have been on a mission to help others enjoy the simple things in life that many of us have taken for granted, like the ability to walk, especially in areas with little to no access to orthotic and prosthetic assistive devices. There is one thing I still not grown out of, I am always curious about the world around me and want to ask the questions of “how does this work,” or “what would happen if…” The world is too big to view it through one perspective. I live to figure out the world around me and love to ask questions that change perspectives to gain a better understanding of what is going on. I have experience as an orthotic and prosthetic technician and resident, as well as in direct care for persons with disabilities both medical and behavioral. Working summer jobs through school such as roofing and construction has given me an appreciation for hard work and perseverance. Other experiences such as working in a bike shop have helped me hone hand skills and custodial work has allowed me to appreciate and pay attention to what goes on “behind the scenes.” I also have several years of experience teaching teambuilding and leadership skills.When I am not in a work setting, you will find me cruising around town on a bike, trail running, playing guitar, pulling something apart to figure it out, or hanging out with friends and making new acquaintances.If you are at all interested in improving lives through assistive technologies, expanding accessibility for assistive devices, or just curious like me about the world around you, I would love to connect.
