When I was asked to form a team to explore and fully understand IB and whether or not it would be a good fit for Dexter, I was put on a pathway of immense growth. As a new administrator I learned the power of team building, community work, facilitation of dialogue and listening as teachers had questions, misgivings and concerns. My work involved identifying those who would be trained in IB along with developing leadership with the team I was working. By working with such a team, we developed trust and understanding of one another, we questioned each other and figured out the best solutions for our organization and we were able to become fully informed about the decisions we made.As the leader of the IB team I was able to recommend the installation and implementation of IB at Dexter High School along with the recommendation of who the teacher leaders for the program would be. Moreover we worked with parents and students to help clarify questions and address concerns through meetings and other communication sources. As a result the Diploma Programme was approved in 2010 and is thriving at DHS to this day.In my first year as administrator I was given the task of figuring out how we would provide students space, time, and proctors for the new state mandated test, the Michigan Merit Exam. There were several obstacles as the mandate was new, the school calendar already set, and how to actually set up the assessment for the first time was challenge enough! Myself and 2 others teamed up to identify various ideas, and our brainstorming led to a solid plan. I met with school principal and the head of the teacher's association to explain the plan, answer questions and address concerns leading to a very successful plan and process. 504 coordinator & Special Education Liaison.

Taught High School English to 10th - 12th Grade students. Courses taught included AP English Literature, American Literature, and Essay Writing.

Taught Essay Writing, Philosophy, American Literature, Honors English as the primary course load. Helped to create and Co-Teach a course called Reader Writer Workshop.Created a new elective class, Philosophy, for high school students. It was a real delight to work with Juniors and Seniors grappling with questions about knowledge, understanding and other big questions that they faced. The class became a real treat to teach and many students wanted to take it.Started the development of writing lab, Sponsored the School's Literary Magazine, Coached Forensics and Poetry Slam Team. Asked to join Superintendent's team to draft new, updated graduation requirements
