Head Of Label

Current
Earache Records

Nottingham, England, United Kingdom

It’s 1994. I’m 13 years old. My friend Andy Yerlett* has lent me his copy of “Earplugged”, and guitar music will never be the same. I don’t how music can be heavy AND groovy like Cathedral and I don’t know what death metal and industrial are yet, but I love Carcass and Godflesh instantly. We learn about jazz middle 8s in music at school and convince the teacher to play Godflesh in class. There’s a track with a clear middle 8 - that must be jazz, right? I’m as sold as my classmates are confused.I catch up with Noisy Mothers on Sunday morning as usual. The next day I rush down on the bus after school to Lotus Records in Stafford to try to pick up a copy of Obituary’s “World Demise”, off the back of hearing “Don’t Care”. I leaf my way through the Earache Records section but it’s not there. I’m so confused – it MUST be in the Earache section, right? Earache IS heavy music to me. The cashier smiles and points me to the A-Z metal section and I find out it’s on Roadrunner, which makes no sense to me. It feels wrong and I don’t buy it. I pick up Godflesh’s “Selfless” instead, an album I love to this day. If I'd have told 13 year old Tim he would be head of label at Earache when he was older, he'd have never believed me. Have faith 13 year old Tim, you got this.*Andy's daughter was googling his name one day as you do and it led her to this linkedin bio. We're now in touch for the first time in 25 years. If people tell you Linkedin isn't useful, show them this.

Jul 2021 - Present

Concert Promoter

I was very happy to be able to listen to stories from the 90s (which is clearly the best era) from Paul & Conal and call that work. That didn't ever grow old. From March 2020 to July 2021 I headed up the broadcast division of Crosstown Concerts, curating and promoting unique broadcast events including Gary Numan's live premiere of Intruder, the reformation of Bellowhead (over 9000 tickets sold) and events for Seth Lakeman, Billy Bragg, The Wildhearts, DMAs, Damien Dempsey, Turin Brakes, Terrorvision and Therapy?

May 2019 - Jul 2021

Concert Promoter

The Mjr Group

The national promoter everyone loved to hate. It wasn't my fault, I promise. I worked for this lot for nearly 5 years and survived with my rep intact, even though they couldn't pay anyone I'd booked for months. I'm still not sure how, but thank you for understanding. I did book lots of great tours, including the Britrock Must Be Destroyed Tour where we took some of my fave bands from my youth The Wildhearts, Reef & Terrorvision to Hammersmith. That was super fun.

Nov 2014 - Apr 2019

Concert Promoter

A game changer of a job, this. It changed everything for me - thanks Chris, you're a king amongst men. The little team I headed up turned the venue round from tribute band hell to the best rock venue in the South West. I'm still super proud of this - we went up to a full time promotions team of 5 or 6 and were responsible for too many ace shows to mention.

Dec 2010 - Nov 2014

Independent Promoter

Lofi Hifi Promotions

Bristol, United Kingdom

My old man came to my first sold out Bristol o2 Academy show and never asked me when i was going to "get a real job" again. Phew. I also paid Ellie Goulding £50 to play her 2nd ever gig. She supported Casiokids and it was like £3 to enter. I used to think this was a real coup before a wise person reminded me that every big artist was small once.

2006 - Dec 2010

Inhouse Promoter / Booker

The Louisiana

Bristol, United Kingdom

I bugged Mig at The Louie for weeks to get him to give me a job. I learned all the ropes here, making all the mistakes too. They're like family to me, the Schillaces. Giani makes the absolute best Tiramisu. You should too - support your local grassroots venue. They need you.
