Developed humane education resources and delivered educational programming to teachers, students, professionals and the public throughout Alberta. By broadly defining humane education as kindness to animals, people and the environment, was able to collaborate with multiple diverse organizations including the education, social services, environmental, scientific, veterinary, legal, law enforcement and other communities. Also increased awareness of the connections between animal cruelty, domestic violence and child abuse by speaking to diverse audiences across Canada and writing for various publications (including authoring a chapter of the Domestic Violence Handbook for Police Services and Crown Prosecutors in Alberta). Spearheaded a research study of the role played by animals in domestic violence situations across Alberta (published in 2012), and established a multi-disciplinary group - the Alberta Alliance for the Safety of Animals and People (AASAP) - to help both human and animal victims of domestic violence. This group - consisting of representatives from human services, legal education, animal health and welfare and other professional communities - oversees an award-winning pet safekeeping program that allows domestic violence victims to find safety, knowing their beloved pets are cared for.In May 2016 I was the on-site manager of the People and Animal Reunification Centre (PARC), part of the Fort McMurray wildfire response. Starting from nothing, a hastily-assembled team of volunteers from various animal rescue organization, humane societies and veterinarians received 1192 animals which were processed, housed, cared for and (most) reunited with their owners who had had to evacuate without their companion animals. Having responsibility for keeping the site functioning was intensely demanding, incredibly challenging but ultimately satisfying.

As Lead Teacher, Department Head, high school coordinator and computer network administrator, I had the great opportunity to work with a highly motivated team to help young people who had been dealt a difficult hand in life to develop their potential and see the goodness they have inside. By adapting high school curriculum to accommodate their needs and Program of Studies requirements and expanding high school credit course offerings, the students were able to achieve success and discover their own innate abilities. I also had the opportunity to develop innovative systems for tracking student progress, supervise education staff and practicum students, liaise with other program areas and create a conceptual design of the new school building to meet the specific needs of the student population.
