I took a career break to care for my parents due to their increasing health and assistance needs. During this time I bought a property at auction and spent a year renovating it and project managing various tradespeople involved in the project. I then sold it for a profit. I also founded a small business hiring out photo booth equipment for corporate events, weddings and parties.Following a change in circumstances I was able to resume my insurance underwriting career in 2023.

Working primarily in the transportation department underwriting complex property and casualty risks for UK Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and UK Rolling Stock Leasing Companies (ROSCOs). Working closely with risk managers and actuaries I negotiated renewal terms with leading London market brokers. Also arranged facultative reinsurance with the London reinsurance market where necessary.I was also responsible for and managed the Heritage Rail product portfolio where we had a 75% market share and delegated the day to day running to an assistant underwriter. I produced and presented a biannual report to senior management with detail on the account's performance.In addition I was seconded to the Public Sector department on an occasional basis with a portfolio of local authority property and casualty risks.

Starting as a Customer Service Representative for Europ Assistance Travel and Motor Breakdown insurance products, I soon joined the medical underwriting department where I was responsible for the assessment of individual applications for short term and annual travel insurance products for customers with pre-existing medical conditions, in accordance with underwriting guidelines. Soon after I managed the department with a team of two medical underwriters and two administrative assistants. I provided training for new recruits for various internal and external call centres including American Express and Lloyds Bank. I also made frequent trips to Navan in the Republic of Ireland where Europ Assistance had a second call centre.I also worked with the Chief Medical Officer and senior management to develop delegated underwriting guidelines for call centres and was heavily involved with the development and testing of internal software for an automated medical underwriting system for call centre staff.
