Supported the Sister Kenny Foundation in raising $2.8 million. Led an international recruitment effort for a senior researcher. Operationalized the functions of the research center; sought future funding opportunities through grants, foundations, industry, angels, and venture capital; and coordinated the build-out of the center. Managed the marketing and sales function of Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (SKRI). Supported marketing and business development for SKRI, resulting in increased inpatient admissions and outpatient revenue. Coordinated and implemented planning and marketing strategies. Linked with corporate and hospital Marketing, Communications, and Community Relations departments to ensure that SKRI aligned with broader organizational priorities. Coordinated construction projects of SKRI and Sister Kenny Sports and Physical Therapy Centers. Construction projects included all phases: demand analysis, pro forma development, business planning, schematic development, new construction, and expansion. Supported efforts to improve the admissions process to SKRI inpatient units at Abbott Northwestern and United Hospitals. Implemented the care navigation function to help guide patients through the various services, specialties, and resources involved in rehabilitation care. Project DirectorSister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (Allina Health) 1997 - 2004Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul AreaDeveloped the Advanced Rehabilitative Technologies Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Secured approval from the Sister Kenny and Abbott Northwestern boards to integrate innovative rehabilitation devices and technology into the delivery of rehabilitation, resulting in new patient admissions and better patient outcomes. Secured more than $3 million for the development of the program through private donations, corporate sponsorship, and federal grants. Developed strong working relationships with physicians, administration, boards of directors, research partners, and the local business community. Managed five clinicians and researchers.Telerehabilitation: Established SKRI as a Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) on Telerehabilitation. The federally funded grant designation resulted in the institute defining a new field of rehabilitation medicine. Managed the development of products and clinical trials by accessing expertise from physicians, research scientists, engineers, therapists, and information technologists. Pacific Rim Initiative: The federally funded grant extended telerehabilitation work to the South Pacific islands of Yap, Guam, and American Samoa. Through video conferencing and satellite technology, provided rehabilitation services to underserved areas. Motovate System: Launched rehabilitation technology product internationally through corporate partnerships with VIASYS Healthcare Inc and Enhanced Mobility Technologies. Negotiated sale of product license and created new revenue stream for the institute with each unit sold. Caission Medical: Formed for-profit joint venture company to develop Internet telerehabilitation tools and virtual reality rehabilitation products under the name of Caission Medical. As an officer of the company, successfully raised $800,000 through a private offering in its second year of operations.
