Even when I was in high school, I dreamed of doing start-ups in high tech and set myself a goal of going to Silicon Valley and doing a start-up within 5 years.Media Vision was my first start-up. After getting my BSEE in 1987 with a focus on semiconductor design from UCSD, I wrote the business plan while still getting my MBA at Santa Clara University and quit my job at National Semiconductor to be employee #1 in July 1990. We achieved $7 million in sales in 1991, $70 million in 1992, and over $200 million in sales in 1993. The company went public in 1992. Goal acheived! First start-up within 3 years and IPO within 5 years!In 1994 I started the Silicon Valley office of Spatializer Audio Labs. As VP of Sales and Marketing, I had P&L responsibility and licensed the company's 3-D audio technology to over 30 OEMs such as Panasonic, Sharp, Hitachi, Toshiba, Compaq, and HP. While at Spatializer I grew the company's sales to $6 million, growing the company's stock price by 500% and resulting in a public market valuation of $100 million.In 1997 I began working on a new technology for delivering music on the Internet, with the idea of creating a celestial jukebox where you could get any song you wanted any time you wanted it. This idea eventually turned into the Rhapsody music service. After raising $6 million in venture capital, I sold the company to Listen.com for $25 million in 2001. I stayed on with Listen to develop Rhapsody to its full potential and helped the Listen.com team sell the company to Real Networks in 2003 for $35 million.I co-founded Personal Life Media in 2006. The company currently publishes a very popular newsletter providing over 200,000 subscribers advice on sex, relationships, and sexual wellness. I am still involved in an advisory role.In 2017 I co-founded The20 which is a dietary supplement company focused on natural products that support a healthy libido. I am still involved in an advisory role. My current full-time focus is real estate. In 2006 I started Sembrose LLC and began seriously investing. Over the years I have continued to leverage my portfolio and I'm currently building out a billion-dollar real estate empire. Although I have numerous projects in the works, my primary focus is on a vacation rental business ecosystem comprised of a portfolio of companies that service the vacation rental industry.
