Since 2013 I have been a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. I was recently granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor, which took effect September, 2019. I am also a core faculty member of the Biointerfaces Institute and a faculty affiliate of the Neurosciences Graduate Program at U-M. My research group, the Peripheral Neural Engineering and Urodynamics Lab (pNEURO Lab), focuses on neural engineering and neuroscience.Our research goals have two primary objectives: to develop neural interfaces that restore function (neuroprostheses) and to examine systems-level neurophysiology. In particular we focus on interfaces with the peripheral nervous system, from dorsal root ganglia and spinal roots to peripheral nerves, and on improving pelvic organ function. Research in our lab utilizes preclinical models and performs clinical studies with an eye towards translation. We have active collaborations with electrical engineers, fabrication experts, computational modelers, and clinicians from a variety of disciplines including urology, obstetrics & gynecology, physical medicine & rehabilitation, surgery, radiology, neurosurgery, and more.
