CurrentA unique aspect of my pediatric gastroenterology practice over the years is caring for children with developmental challenges. Foremost among my patients are children with autism spectrum disorders. My care for this patient population continued to expand after I joined Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard University in 1998. In order to provide effective and comprehensive medical care for this growing number of patients, I was fortunate to be a member of the staff at the Lurie Center for Autism (formerly LADDERS) for the past 15 years. The Lurie Center is Massachusetts General Hospital for Children’s multi-specialty team of physicians including neurological, genetics, metabolic, and psychiatric specialists came together to provide effective medical management and evaluation to children with a variety of developmental problems. In May of 2013, I was appointed Director of Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Lurie Center for Autism. I am grateful to everyone who worked with me at MGH over the years to help advance my own medical education in autism. I have now taken on a new challenge helping to develop a program to medically care for children with autism disorders and other developmental problems at Boston Children's Hospital. This is the finest pediatric hospital in the country (ranked the #1 Pediatric Hospital in the country by US News and World Report), and it is my pleasure to work with the best GI group in the country. Our mission is to build a leading program of medical care for children with autism, developmental and genetic disorders. I am pleased to be able to see new patients and collaborate on clinical research involving children with autism.
