CurrentAs an Environmental Scientist with Navarro Research and Engineering at the NASA White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, NM, I specialize in environmental compliance, particularly in alignment with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). My primary responsibility is to ensure that our operations meet the stringent requirements set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), Federal Executive Orders, and NASA's own environmental policies.I leverage a high-level understanding of environmental regulations, a proactive approach to regulatory compliance, and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of environmental safety at a key NASA facility. My role demands a strong initiative, the ability to work independently, and excellence in communication and decision-making.Key Responsibilities:• Enforce environmental compliance in accordance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) for the management of hazardous waste, universal waste, and used oil at the NASA White Sands Test Facility.• Prepare and review waste characterization profiles for RCRA-regulated chemicals.• Monitor on-site inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas, weekly, to help track waste streams.• Coordinate shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste off-site.• Employ Python coding to perform data analytics for shipments to identify trends in waste streams, while simultaneously performing quality assurance for records management.• Engage in cross-functional projects, such as managing contaminated groundwater waste from drilling operations, leading field surveys for wildlife assessments, and assisting with air compliance monitoring and reporting, etc.)
