About Tim Condit

Hands on Cloud engineer with expertise in DevOps, migrations, automation, and systems administration. Focused on resiliency, availability, and durability. Accomplished in discovery, design, implementation and delivery, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.● Business Strengths: Stakeholder partnership, technical leadership, training & mentoring; building teams, direct and persuasive communication, bottom line guy, delivering on the mission.● Technical Strengths: Hands on engineering, writing customized systems designed to meet a specific need, productive AWS admin and developer, expanding into other providers.● Fluent in: Connecting people and data, data driven analysis, communicating the WHY; reducing chaos and change management.● Technical nirvana: Open collaborative information sharing, building reusable code and components, exploring goals to really address the needs of the company.● Philosophy: Deliver what the business needs and wants – smoothly, responsibly and cost effectively.● What drives me: Combining business and technology imperatives to move the company forward● Methodologies: DevOps, CI/CD, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Containers● Technologies: Python, AWS, Terraform, Chef, Ansible, C#, Jenkins, Docker, Linux, Mac, Windows● Design: Discovery, Requirements Definition, Technical SpecificationsI'm ...* A generalist, and agree with Robert Heinlein, who says that "specialization is for insects".* A lifelong learner. Technologies come and go. Remember Visual Source Safe? How about CruiseControl.NET or the WISE Installer? I've used them all in the past.* A fact-finder. At least that's what one of those personality tests told me long ago. It makes sense. I live with the tension between comfort in understanding the systems I work with, versus the need to get things done, often with incomplete information.* A builder. Whether working with an existing system, or building something new, I love incrementally improving things. The goal is progress, not perfection.Always willing to write and deliver training and coaching. Workshops and hands-on exercises are great ways to reach people.* Grateful every day for the opportunity to work with smart and capable professionals like yourselves.

    • Migrated ~130 TokBox servers to AWS, resulting in ~25% reduction in monthly spend. This was a large, multi-phase project built on other work described here.• Led requirements gathering and socialized working agreements. Delivered "HQ and satellites" regional migration plan. Pivoted to client’s preference to start with media servers across all regions.• Helped move the DevOps team away from a monolith Chef Infra repository. We refactored it into ~25 application-specific repositories and worked with the developers to ease their transition.• Set up and led a Scrum practice with the DevOps team until a new manager was hired.• Cleaned up legacy Terraform libraries with overlapping functionality. The deprecated libraries are still in use in some places across the fleet, but over time they will all be retired.• Contributed to building a fully functional and repeatable development environment for use with our "promotion path" strategy.

Stacks were provisioned with Terraform.• Executed SSM documents to deploy and run SQL scripts on the SQL and OLAP servers. This was roughly analogous to using Ansible or Chef on Linux instances.• Refactored provided SQL scripts for reuse. Also wrote a bunch of PowerShell to configure application pools, Windows authentication, virtual directories, etc. on IIS.• Configured the presentation server for remote access by the product assortment teams.
