I set up and ran the operations and finance side of an operations and management consultancy in Blantyre, Malawi. I worked as a business and engineering consultant across a mix of private sector businesses and donors with a focus on Private Sector Development. The business grew from zero to a six figure (GBP) turnover in less than two years.In this role I developed and reviewed production facilities across a number of industries, introduced and developed quality standards in production workshops, designed, tested and standardised machinery to be manufactured and used locally as well as working with more than 100 companies to review their operations, finance and/or business offering.Clients included the full spectrum from start-up entrepreneurs looking to establish their first business and take products to market through to multi-million dollar turn over businesses looking to expand or seeking investment. Clients included DFID, The World Bank and GIZ along with a wide variety of local and international NGOs.

Engineering Manager / Integrated Project Team Lead in the Fluid Pressure systems area. Primary responsibility was leading the Engineering and Qualification activities for a composite solution for the Airbus A350XWB fuel and inerting system (US$1bn lifetime revenue).This included coordinating and leading a large number of qualification packages and activities with direct reporting to senior internal and external program and engineering teams. During the project I authored or approved more than 1000 technical documents to Airbus and the Tier 1 supplier, all of which had to be accepted by Airbus in order to clear the parts for flight.I took the product from initial concepts and patent applications through to full-scale production using an interim production facility before moving into a purpose built new factory. I established and grew the team involved from two, to more than sixty people over this time, across a number of functional areas, all of which I was responsible for from a product safety and technical point of view.While managing this diverse team I had line management responsibility for a number of engineers of different experience and skill level, I was responsible for all core management duties of these team members including career planning and development. This was alongside managing the workloads of a larger number of engineers who did not report to me but were working on my project.

Starting at CTG as a development engineer in the aerospace engineering office; developing skills and understanding of composite manufacture and machining. I designed and carried out practical risk mitigation testing of composite components and reported data back to the external and internal customers.

A member of a small design team focusing on aircraft interior components (Structural and Non-Structural) using metals and plastics.Starting in a broad ranging design role my responsibilities covered both parts and assemblies which were taken through from concept to detail design covering both new and reverse engineered products, I expanded my role through detail drawing creation and review in tandem with building relationships with manufacturers and suppliers. As a result of this expansion and increased responsibility I was exposed to and developed skills quickly in injection moulding, extrusion, metal and plastic machining and the QA product sign off procedure.
