As the Executive Director of the Special Education Foundation, I provide the leadership of an organization that helps children with disabilities achieve success in school and beyond. Established in 1984 as the first public school foundation in the state of Missouri, the Special Education Foundation provides support and assistance to students who receive services from the Special School District of Saint Louis County (SSD).More than 16 percent of students in St. Louis County receive special education services with the Foundation serving 20,000 students annually through its programs.

I’ve been on the forefront of public media as a nationally recognized industry thought leader for more than 25 years. From serving as chair of the NPR Board of Directors for three years to completing the first merger of a digital news startup with a public radio station that recast our radio news operation as a digital first newsroom, I’ve been a part of major strategic developments during my entire career spanning three stations and at the national level.We’re in a moment of transformative change in media and in the demographics of our country, and my consulting firm, the Public Impact Group, is focused on helping public radio leaders develop the strategies to increase revenue and play a more significant role for the organizations they lead in communities across the country.

The St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation amplifies STL’s transformation by taking our case to businesses, schools, social clubs and residents through a variety of tactics including civic pride training, educational curricula, events, marketing and social media. Grand Center, Inc. (GCI) is a non-profit organization whose role and responsibility is to coordinate and oversee the growth and development of St. Louis’ historic arts and cultural district.

St. Louis Public Radio operates a public radio news service, two digital music streams (Classical and Jazz), a news website (www.stlpublicradio.org), and community events space. These services reach 600,000 persons each month in the 24th ranked radio market in the country operating with an annual budget of $8.5M with 65 total FTE and content unit of 34 FTE.- Tripled the assets during tenure from $3.8M to $12M - More than doubled the philanthropic support for STLPR from $3.4M to $8.2M- Currently in the quiet phase of a $15M campaign for endowment, capital, and content expansion. Early commitments to the campaign included gifts of $3M and $1.6M- Completed acquisition of the St. Louis Beacon (the first ever between a public radio operation and an online non-profit local news service) that doubled the news operation at St. Louis Public Radio that included a $3M capacity-building fundraising campaign in 2013- Lead the fundraising effort and successfully completed the construction of a new headquarters of St. Louis Public Radio with UMSL at Grand Center in 2012, a $10M, 27,000 square foot broadcast and academic facility located in the Arts and Entertainment district in St. Louis- Successfully acquired WQUB-FM in Quincy, IL in 2012 and KMST-FM in Rolla, MO in 2017 for St. Louis Public Radio retaining the public radio service in those communities- Recognized as one of the Most Influential St. Louisans in the St. Louis Business Journal

Public Radio in Mid-America (PRIMA) is a regional membership organization that provides a forum for the discussion of issues and the development of consensus positions that advance the public radio industry and the services provided by its stations. It offers management training opportunities, facilitates industry planning and encourages the sharing of ideas and perspectives among industry professionals.

stl250 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Between now and 2015, it will serve as the hub for planning, fundraising and coordinating events that commemorate the founding of the St. Louis area. All efforts to date have been executed through donated services and volunteer time. To finalize plans and begin fundraising requires funding for professional staff and overhead.
