I'm a software engineer with an interest in build systems and the way we assemble, release, deploy and maintain software in general.I was previously at Joyent, working on our object storage product, helping to improve the way we built and packaged it.From October 2017 - April 2018, at Oracle, my focus was the Solaris Compliance framework - a means for customers to create and maintain security assessments of their installed OS, showing adherence to a number of industry-wide benchmarks. From March 2015 - Aug 2017, I was the technical lead for the Solaris OS/Net (kernel & core userland) development team.I worked on Solaris, in a variety of different roles at Sun Microsystems, and then Oracle, from 1996 to 2018 and am generally comfortable working on any UNIX-like system.Over the years, I've gained experience in many aspects of software development: leading a large OS development team, source code management & CI systems, release engineering, database & tools development, virtualisation, system administration, software testing and test development, and internationalisation and localisation.Previously I helped to write the new packaging system for Solaris, a ground-up implementation to replace UNIX SVR4 packages. Written in Python, the packaging system took advantage of Solaris innovations like ZFS.I enjoy learning, and teaching people about new technology and have mentored several people at Sun in the past. I love working on difficult engineering problems, finding creative ways to solve them.Specialties: Python, UNIX shell scripting, Perl, Java (both client & server-side), operating systems, OO design / design patterns & UML, an ability to learn new technologies very quickly. My previous roles have involved test development & methodologies, release engineering, source code control systems, system administration, process development, open source community interaction, W3C standards and internationalisation.
Listed skills include Unix, Solaris, Perl, Software Development, and 17 others.

I'm working in the core Solaris Kernel group at Sun, concentrating on virtualization, where we continue to integrate the Xen hypervisor into OpenSolaris (xVM was the internal name of that effort)I was originally brought on board to help with build and tools work, but have since worked on features to improve the ease-of-use of virtualization technologies on.

Investigated ZFS test suite coverage, using DTrace scripts and source code.
I worked in the Sun Globalisation group as part of a team writing tools to make the translation of software and computer documentation easier and more cost effective. These were implemented in Java, (using J2EE on the server side) as well as JavaCC and client-side Java. Ultimately, I was able to open source this work, which can now been seen as part of the.
