As team leader, I drove change, facilitated innovation, promoted best practices, coached and mentored talent, so that we could deliver best-in-class products on time, on budget, and on quality. I trained Harman's engineers on Klippel testing, spoke at industry events, wrote magazine articles, and taught Floyd Toole's Introduction to Acoustics course at CEDIA. Building the high performance team culture required restructuring: eliminating under-performers and negative attitudes, establishing trust, relationship building, and personal commitment. I traveled extensively to forge strong relations with diverse global functional teams within Harman, with customers, with vendors and with industry associations. This was essential to improve product cost and quality.All of the things I did, I also encouraged my team to do. They traveled to problem-solve with vendors; they spoke and taught at industry events; they reached out to the global teams; they trained and developed. I left my team motivated and engaged.

Loudspeaker and transducer R&D. Specialized in novel advanced transducers and systems.I lead a small (3-5) but effective team that researched and developed advanced transducer and loudspeaker technology to keep our clients ahead of the competition. Established the best equipped Klippel lab in the Americas including the scanning laser vibrometer for diaphragm and suspension analysis, the SPM suspension measurement module, the first Klippel Nearfield Scanner, and were the NA technical support for Klippel. I invested heavily in training and professional development of all team members and encouraged continuous learning. This lead to training of Klippel users across North America and presenting tutorials and workshops at industry events.Performed a full range of acoustic measurements, including industry standard CEA 426B and CEA2010 testing. 2pi and 4pi SPL, THD and IMD, reliability testing, polar plots, etc. For development we used LEAP enclosure analysis, magnetic FEA, Solidworks CAD and created many proprietary product development programs. I maintained a well equipped shop for prototyping of wood, plastic and metal components. We interfaced with diverse global vendors to develop our clients' concepts into award winning products. Our clients trusted us to deal directly with their clients, proudly presenting us as their engineering team. Blue Systems (now Convergence Engineering) is an engineering design company with several diverse clients and up to 16 employees. I rejoined in 2000 to plan and execute the company move from Almonte to Arnprior. At that time it had 3 employees, but was growing. Shortly after that, I oversaw installation and commissioning of a full sized anechoic chamber and IEC listening room. As we grew to 16 employees, I was involved in all hiring. I developed a team of ~3 acoustic engineer/designers to develop innovative transducers and loudspeakers for Definitive Technology. In 2008-9, while the founder was ill for 11 months, I directed the technical operations of the company.Highlights:Introduced FEA techniques, managed regulatory approvals, negotiated product pricing with Asian vendors, and managed NPI. Received my first 3 patents for acoustic innovation, which are still in high volume production today.Our products received many industry awards, firsts and bests: Definitive Technology Supercube series subwoofers, Reference and Trinity Subwoofers, SM and PM bookshelf speakers, BP7000 series, PC1000 speaker series (in production over 12 years and over 1M sold). Nu-Tech produces precision extrusions for the nuclear, chemical and technology sectors. I was responsible for managing several of the material testing labs and ensuring the products complied with ASTM, ASME, CSA and customer specific requirements. https://nutechpm.com/

Designed high fidelity loudspeakers and transducers for Definitive Technology. Generated CAD drawings, prepared BOM's, prototyped new designs, simulated acoustic designs in LEAP, measured loudspeakers at the NRC anechoic chamber, and was the primary liaison with the regulatory approvals agencies. Transducers I developed in 1995 are still in mass production today (2017).

Provided specialist assistance for the MOPITT (Measurement of Pollution in The Troposphere) project, which was part of NASA's Earth Observing System. Key role was to design, prototype, and qualify the cryogenic insulation for the Dewar Subassembly. Successfully reduced the cryogenic power requirements 40%.

Technical support for Oxidation/Diffusion, CVD, PECVD and XRF equipment in wafer fab.

Department of Electrical Engineering: Managed a research lab for 6 graduate students. Designed, built , and maintained experimental reactors for CVD, PECVD, evaporation and diffusion used in the research of semiconductors.

Cross appointed to the Departments of Physics and Metallurgical Engineering. Designed, built, and maintained experimental apparatus used for condensed matter physics, specifically for the study of Metal Hydrides and the acoustics of superfluid helium. This included the tools for ultra high vacuum, cryogenics, metallurgy and mass spectrometry.
