Tim Haab has been the Director of the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) at The Ohio State University since July 1, 2024, after serving as Professor and Chair of the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics at Ohio State.A leading expert in environmental economics, Dr. Haab specializes in valuing environmental goods, benefit-cost analysis, and natural resource damage assessment. His applied research addresses pressing issues like harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and marine debris. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and three books, including a widely used Ph.D.-level text. With over 8,200 citations and $3.2 million in external funding, his work has had significant influence in the field.Dr. Haab earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland and began his career at East Carolina University before joining Ohio State. He has served as Chair of the National Association of Agricultural Economics Administrators, advised the U.S. EPA, and co-edited the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. He also co-authors the "Environmental Economics" blog, bringing economic insights to current environmental issues.Under Dr. Haab’s leadership, SENR fosters sustainable natural resource management through interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach. The school offers undergraduate programs including Environmental Science, Environmental Policy and Decision Making, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife, and Environment, Economy, Development, and Sustainability. These programs equip students to tackle complex environmental challenges.SENR features the Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, a Ramsar-designated wetland and living laboratory for ecological research. It also includes Stone Laboratory, Ohio State’s island campus on Lake Erie, which offers immersive courses and supports research on freshwater ecosystems. Additionally, SENR administers the Ohio Sea Grant College Program, a key partner in addressing the Great Lakes' environmental and economic challenges through research, education, and outreach.Through its academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement, SENR advances environmental science and prepares future leaders in sustainability and conservation.
