    Bij ongeveer 4 procent van de Nederlandse bevolking komt Scoliose voor. Scoliose is een kromming in de wervelkolom bij veelal jonge adolescente meisjes. Wanneer de scheefstand groter wordt is het dragen van een brace de meest gebruikte therapie. De effectiviteit van de therapie is afhankelijk van een aantal factoren zoals de duur van het dragen van de brace (tot 23 uur per dag), de vorm van de brace en hoe strak de brace gedragen wordt. Door middel van het aanbrengen van sensoren in de brace kan bijvoorbeeld de draagtijd van de brace, de drukverdeling in de brace en de spanning in de sluiting van de brace worden gemeten. Hiermee wordt een volgende stap gezet op de route naar een intelligente, gepersonaliseerde brace voor Scoliose therapie bij jong adolescenten.

    As a postdoc I worked on deformation of the carotid arterial wall during the cardiac cycle using ultrasound. The goal of this research was to detect vulnerable plaques in the carotid artery that are prone to rupture and cause a stroke or a cardiac infarction. Following this project I secured funding for 4 years to apply this technique in the field of urology for developing a noninvasive technique to diagnose prostate enlargement in men with voiding symptoms such as a weak urinary stream.
