2018+After a reorg from four business units to three, I currently am the head of the design function for two product groups:IAM - LastPass, GoToMyPC, LogMeIn Central, LogMeIn ProCollaboration (SMB) - join.me, GrasshopperI manage an incredibly talented team in Boston and Budapest of design managers, designers and researchers and deliver high quality, thoroughly researched product concepts and specifications to my equally talented and lovely engineering counterparts. We use a ton of different techniques across the product development process to keep everyone engaged in our work: on-site customer research, focus groups (not my favorite but hey! we did em so I'll take credit), design sprints, customer journey workshops, design critiques, prototype development. The products I manage have consistently beaten expectations in customer satisfaction, behavioral metrics and financial metrics. We also run an incredible number of community building and employee engagement programs: hosting meetups in Boston and Budapest, collaborating with other design organizations, hosting Creative Mornings, celebrating World Usability Day, hosting screenings of InVision films and our ever popular rotating "Social Chair" program ensures we're always out on the town on a regular basis.2017-2018After our acquisition of Citrix Online, I led the product design function for the Emerging Products Business Unit. This included managing design managers, designers and researchers on LogMeIn's two fastest growing products (LastPass and Grasshopper). Key accomplishments of my teams:- Established design persona for LastPass using Aaron Walter's framework- Creation of a design system for LastPass- Launched LastPass teams, beating internal expectations- Launched LastPass families, beating internal expectations- Led cross-functional early funnel acquisition team for Grasshopper- Incubated an early stage Grasshopper product, got executive buy in and managed the design process
  • Logmein
    Head Of Product Design
    Logmein Oct 2016 - Feb 2017
    Boston, Massachusetts, Us
I was the Head of Product Design for all of LogMeIn's products. This included managing an incredibly diverse and talented team of designers, content writers, technical writers and (for the first time in LogMeIn history!) UX researchers. As a team, we worked hard to modernize and mature the Product Design function, focusing on creating a proactive, strategic and metrics-driven organization with a goal of expanding our impact at a time when LogMeIn really needed design.- Consolidated all design reporting into a functional department, using the Centralized Partnership organization model- Introduced OKRs (shoutout to Rick Klau at Google Ventures!) and managed this process. We were the first department in the organization to adopt goal-setting- Established UX research function, hired the first two UX researchers for LastPass and join.me- Hosted first-ever Product Design offsite, including guest speaker Jake Knapp (of Sprint! fame)- Celebrated World Usability Day as an internal promotional tool- The team in general just crushed a lot of hard design problems (Bold360, LastPass teams, xively product launcher, join.me admin console) and earned a ton of respect for doing so
  • Logmein
    Manager, Product Design
    Logmein Mar 2015 - Oct 2016
    Boston, Massachusetts, Us
Manager and design lead for the Identity and Access Management business unit (LastPass, Pro, Central, Hamachi and Meldium). This was an awesome time to be working on the IAM product group as we were transitioning out of a mature market (Remote access) into an adjacent need. This involved a TON of on-site research with customers and prospects to develop an opinion on the customers' needs and internal competency for speaking to this group. We ran on-site interviews, focus groups and surveys testing new product concepts and doing needs identification. At this time we didn't have a research team. so I was the lead on most of this research (probably why I ended up starting the research function!).This led to two awesome acquisitions in the password management space - first Medlium and then LastPass. Going through these acquisitions provided some of the most challenging and rewarding work of my career at LogMeIn. Both organizations needed a ton of help understanding the benefits of a mature product design function.- Redesigned Meldium entirely from the ground up to widespread* acclaim (*relative to LastPass's millions of users this wasn't 'widespread', per se, but the users we had loved it)- Redesigned the LastPass enterprise admin console from the ground up, using atomic design principles (which later allowed us to drastically speed up development for LastPass teams and families)- Launched massive improvements to LastPass sign-up, onboarding, save and fill experiences and mobile experiences that all led to big spikes in user engagement and retention- Got to redesign the LastPass logo due to a pending trademark lawsuit with their old mark (featured in https://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/new_logo_for_lastpass.php)
  • Logmein
    Innovation Catalyst
    Logmein Mar 2014 - Mar 2015
    Boston, Massachusetts, Us
I worked with the LogMeIn innovation lab to improve product ideation, evaluation and design processes through LogMeIn.Most of this job was doing internal product consulting, running research programs and Google design sprints (before they were cool!) for the different products in the LogMeIn portfolio. We ran a design sprint for join.me during their 'North Star' project, which was monitored at the time by the CEO Mike Simon. This led to one of the better moments of my career where Craig Daniel, head of product for join.me, sent me a video of Mike being happy with the prototype we had made. He said something like 'Ok, this will work.' but I loved it!I also ran the first three Hackathons for LogMeIn. This included design work, but also event planning (travel, signage, working with venues), internal promotion (emails, posters, I made stupid websites like http://logmeinhackathonideagenerator.com/) and, of course, being the on-stage MC for the event. This event was awesome. For the final one before we merged we rented the National Film Theatre in Budapest (https://urania-nf.hu/). We had higher than expected participation in each one of these events and they led to amazing ideas (inlcuding Rescue Lens: https://www.logmeinrescue.com/remote-support-features/remote-support/video-support-rescue-lens). My favorite impact was on the participants, who came alive that week. One developer in Hungary said, "In my 8 years at LogMeIn, this is my favorite week".
