I’m an experienced Strategy Consultant, and an expert in video technology and fixed telecoms networks (it might not sound exciting to you, but it's what keeps most of the world, including me, entertained most nights of the week!). I’m now Director of a company, Taglo, which makes software that enables the rapid and accurate creation of forecast models.📈How did I get here? I started as an engineer, working in a company making ejection seats for aircraft, and then studying Engineering at Cambridge University. During this time, my love-hate relationship with Microsoft Excel was born (I thought that pretty much any engineering problem in the world could be solved with Excel and VBA, which was a bit optimistic maybe, but I was young…)After University, I went into Strategy Consulting, specialising in the telco and media sectors. I worked for a number of great consultancies and got to take part in fascinating projects around the world. Many of these projects involved building forecast models in Excel, doing things like projecting the market size for a new product, or calculating the return on investment for a new opportunity.And as Strategy Consulting hasn't really changed in the last 40 years, all of these models were built in Excel, and always with a lot of pain and usually several all-nighters, as we desperately tried to find the source of errors, or make last minute changes. And so I started thinking, "there's got to be a better way".After years of thinking about this problem, and nights and weekends spent learning how to write my own software (it felt good to put my Engineering training to some use at last), I eventually arrived at a solution - and so Taglo was born!Models from Taglo is now a super-powerful piece of software - I use it to create forecast models at 10-times the speed I could when I was an analyst, and my freelance consulting clients love it.Removing the pain of working directly in Excel has also allowed me to focus more on the "art" of financial/forecast modelling, and so I also now run high-level training sessions for people looking to improve their modelling.Want to become an Alpha user?
