At heart, I'm passionate about helping people to change things - in their communities, in society and in their personal lives. That's why I've spent most of my life actively involved in local politics, and it's why I spent seventeen years working for Age Concern in Calderdale.After five years of full time local politics - as deputy leader and leader of the Council, and as leader of the largest group - I want to make sure I keep my connection with other parts of society, through work with the private, voluntary or community sector. I'm not seeking full time employment, but I'm looking for opportunities as a consultant, mentor, interim or freelance where I can use my experience and skills flexibly to benefit you and your organisation, whilst at the same time making sure my own understanding continues to deepen and grow.I would sum up my strengths as being around governance, innovation and leadership. The strengths I have to offer include:-- Extensive experience in political and strategic leadership including two years as Leader of a Metropolitan Borough Council.- Strong voluntary sector leadership and management experience as Chief Executive of a dynamic and growing voluntary organization – growing annual turnover from £150k to over £2m.- Committed to evidence-based policy and action, with a career-long involvement in commissioning and undertaking research, and the ability to assimilate, summarise and present information effectively and in ways that leads to action.- I have extensive experience of governance, both as a member of various Boards and governing bodies and as chief executive of a voluntary organisation, giving me a distinctive understanding and insight into governance issues and the support needs of Boards and senior management teams.- Vision, innovation and leadership – my track record includes developing new service ideas, helping teams respond to challenges, and encouraging innovation and imagination amongst teams and partnerships.
