As a Software Architect at Thinkmill I have been the lead engineer on a number of projects, delivering successful outcomes for our clients.I lead the design and implementation of a data labelling platform for use in a radiology machine learning platform. This full stack project involved designing the backend data model, user workflows, and the frontend application framework. I worked with radiologists and data scientists to ensure that high quality data was collected which could support good modelling and clinical outcomes. I implemented DICOM image processing algorithms to co-register anatomical features across longitudinal studies.I have also been the lead engineer developing the Keystone 5 and Keystone 6 open source GraphQL CMS platforms. This framework allows its users, including Thinkmill developers, to quickly implement frontend applications by providing a configurable and extendible GraphQL API based on the provided data model.In addition to technical responsibilities, I have also been responsible for interviewing engineering candidates and making hiring decisions as we grow our team. As a Squad Leader I provide mentoring and guidance to both engineering and non-engineering colleague. I have presented numerous in-house training sessions on a range of computer science topics.

This work required working with clients to help them understand what data they had available, and how it could be leveraged to address specific business problems. I implemented end to end solutions with machine learning models at their core to help businesses solve their specific problems.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Breakaway I primarily worked as a consultant at Cochlear. In that role I worked in the firmware team, leading the development of their firmware development environment. This involved working closely with the firmware and DSP engineers to ensure that they were able to build safe and reliable embedded software, running on a unique hardware platform.Cochlear require their medical devices to meet the highest regulatory standards, and I helped ensure that the firmware could be formally tested to the required standard. This required developing custom build systems, test frameworks, and CI pipelines, as well as building static analysis tools for the DSP assembly language.The primary tooling development language was Python, while the firmware and DSP code were written in a combination of C and assembly language.

As a Doctoral candidate at the Climate Change Research Centre (UNSW) I did research in the field of computational fluid dynamics and modelling of the global ocean. My research project involved making improvement to the representation of diffusivity due to mesoscale eddies in the Modular Ocean Model, a global ocean model which contributes the CMIP5 experimental group.I was able to bring both my scientific and software engineering skills to bear on this project. By taking advantage of new language features in FORTRAN95 I was able significantly simplify the code in a way which made the problem of verifying the correctness of the code tractable. A thorough analysis of the code was able to identify small but important discrepancies between the implementation and mathematical modelling. This project gave me the opportunity to work on the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputer Vayu, which was ranked 35 in the top 500 when first built.Thesis title: Stochastic Parameterizations of Diffusivity in Neutral Physics

As a Software Engineer at OKL I worked on the OKL4 operating system, building the tooling used to compile the system. This work required an intimate knowledge of both the target system, systems languages, and Python. I implemented build system algorithms which tracked module dependencies via system call monitoring, which significantly improved the build time for all members of the team. I also served as a subject matter expert in Python in a team of engineers primarily skilled in embedded development.

As a Software Developer at the Brain Resource Company I worked with the core research team to build tools to visualise and evaluate the data collected from research participants. This data included EEG, ECG, ERP, skin conductance, and respiratory rates. The tools I built were used by the clinical team to generate personalised insight reports for participants, as well as to feed processed results into the companies database of standardised neuroscientific data. I conducted independent research to develop new algorithms for identifying Event Related potential peaks in EEG data as part of my Computer Engineer honours project.
