This position involved working long days loading chemicals & fuel into a helicopter, liaising with farmers & co-ops, washing down equipment, and moving between fields, in order to ensure the effective application of chemicals to as many thousands of acres of crops as possible.

After completing university I spent just over a year travelling the world; working in Canada and Ghana, and volunteering in Mexico. I had some amazing experiences and learnt a lot about other people and cultures during that time.

Ghana

While working for Geodrill Ghana I was based at a remote drilling base of operations in central Ghana. My role involved drawing and cataloguing their parts inventory using SolidWorks so that in the future the parts could be programmed into a CNC lathe and machined on site, instead of waiting for replacements to arrive which could take weeks in West Africa. I worked directly with local Ghanaians and other expats to ensure that I could translate their needs into easily understood technical drawings. My biggest achievement whilst there was in producing engineering drawings for a generator trailer and a tracked rod carrier.

Selected for one of 20 places on the DMO Materiels Engineering Cadetship Scheme, I was sponsored to complete my degree and receive engineering training and work experience during the university holidays. My work experience consisted mostly of project management, acquisition and maintenance.
