Providence, RI... Hurricane Gloria... September 1985. That was the moment that I knew I wanted to be a meteorologist. Why? I was unbelievably fascinated not at the power of the storm (albeit, I was blown away by the strength of the wind) but by how those around me reacted to it. I was almost five years old, but that storm helped form part of my aggressive personality. So, I continued to go through school with killer grades with my sights set on that one goal. I went to Lyndon State College (now Northern Vermont University) and majored in my dream job. I interned with Brad Field at NBC30 in Connecticut two summers in a row. I was a featured on-air meteorologist for three semesters in college and graduated exactly how I planned it! And then... never got hired into the industry.A killer blow to most... and to me for awhile. But you do what you need to do. I made ends meet. I moved to the South and held positions in both the Hotel and Retail Sports industries picking up valuable skills in the process and eventually took a part time job at a brand new candy store called IT'SUGAR in Myrtle Beach.Game-changers don't happen often... and most of the time you don't even realize it's happening. But, IT'SUGAR was the game-changer. After two years in a store, I was brought down to South Florida to join an expanding corporate team where I blossomed along with the company. The skills I acquired... the contacts I met... the amazing people I worked with both internally and externally were all invaluable. But the single most important skill I learned -- self-confidence. In a sink or swim environment... I swam. I proved to myself that I could absolutely do anything I set out to do.In the process I discovered two newfound passions -- Candy and Creative Product Development that MAKES PEOPLE SMILE. In uncertain times, I've been able to see first hand that a simple hand-crafted product can change someone's day. It's a powerful tool... and while meteorologists provide their own service to the population... there's something to be said about the ability to surprise and delight someone when they least expect it.I still love weather. I love hockey, hiking, and really anything outdoors. I'm a horror movie aficionado (Joe Bob Briggs is a personal hero). But my real passion lies in retail and the amazing candy industry that I've been a part of for over 12 years!
