I've recently left academia and am looking for interesting opportunities in software engineering. My background is in speech, but I am interested in working as a full-stack developer.While in academia I worked on a number of diverse projects--most have involved analyzing raw speech and text databases. My specialization is in prosody--mostly working on intonation. Some projects I have worked on include:1) Analysis of Non-Native Speech - training of "r" and "l" sound distinction in speakers of languages without them (e.g. Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese) using a web-based application - treatment for improving stress and rhythm patterns of non-native speakers - investigated L1 interference in the perception of English prosody by native speakers of Japanese2) Analysis of Native Prosody - oversaw the recording setup of mother-child pairs in English, built a system for automatically extracting relevant speech events, and analyzed the results - gathered and helped analyze prosodic perception data from native speakers of English and Spanish3) Speech Recognition - wrote a python interface to a Japanese Forced-Aligner - HTK-based recognizer for prosodic events in speech 4) Software projects - LMEDS, an AJAX-based web-application for doing speech perception experiments - a real-time pitch tracker visualization using OpenGL - a web crawler for extracting text from web forums5) Teaching - intro to computational linguistics - intro to language changeBefore grad school, I worked at HBM SoMat where I- wrote python interfaces to various hardware control mechanisms- used those interfaces to check calibration of hardware to provided standards- wrote the interface for storing and retrieving the data from a Postgres databaseSpecialties: Artificial Intelligence, Speech Analysis, User-interface development and design, database development, OOP, Python, C/C++, OpenGL, SQL, test design
