The Board oversees the business of the Apartment and Housing Rentals Foundation, a non profit founded to assist tenants with housing issues. The Foundation support Eviction Prevention, Second Chance Housing, Rent to own programs. It also provides classes to members in budgeting, tenant rights and responsibilities and classes in how to handle the stress of housing issues. I have been using two proprietary systems which are complementary for picking buy and sell points.In December 2011 I purchased an award winning software company which provides property management tools for landlords, property managers and owners associations and other business models as well. I analyzed and invested personal funds in the stocks and commodity markets using fundamental and technical analysis as a basis for decision making.In December 2012 I purchased and re-branded a property management software company to Smart Property Systems. It is a cloud application software with property management tools for investors who own rental properties of any type.

In 2006 I needed a hip resurfacing and decided to go to Chennai India to have a world renowned doctor perform the surgery. I was able to get my Blue Cross Insurance to pay for that procedure. Because no one had been successful getting insurance coverage offshore, I was regaled with a lot of media attention. Several medical travel companies contacted me to see if I would help their customers. So I started Medical Travel Insurance Assistance. I worked with each traveler's insurance company to be sure that their paperwork was correct and due diligence was done before the patient traveled. Several of the insurance companies with which I worked began to develop direct relationships with the certified hospitals and doctors who were renowned for their quality of care and level of proficiency throughout the world. Of course the benefit was that offshore surgeries were considerably less costly than they are in the U.S. My hip surgery, for example, would have cost over $60,000 in the US but my insurance company paid only $7,000 when I had the work done in India. My out of pocket cost was $1450 and that covered my hotels, meals, car with driver, and two dental crowns. By late 2009 most of the Insurance companies I worked with were doing their own direct payment for offshore medical treatment. Blue Cross decided on a national policy which each state exchange had to follow, not to pay any more coverage for any non emergency treatment outside of the US. Tri Care which covers military families, continues to pay for medical treatment all over the world and now has made it easy for the covered member to arrange his own procedures. Aetna works directly with hospitals and chosen physicians in other countries to provide quality, low cost care to US travelers. I worked my way out of a job. But I would like to think that I had a hand in helping many people get the treatment they needed as a result of the work I did.

I started the first private practice of speech pathology in the state of Washington. I worked with the medical and dental communities to provide services to their patients for diagnosis and treatment of many kinds of disorders. I specialized in diagnosis and treatment of language development, swallowing, stuttering, voice disorders, aphasia, language and speech loss subsequent to head trauma etc.As the first in the profession, I was asked to sit in on risk management meetings with insurance companies as well as large industrial and corporate entities as they wrote their insurance riders for Speech Pathology Services. It was quite interesting to learn how the insurance industry sets up its risk models and then figures the pricing.Being the first to do something is always a challenge because no one really knows what you do. So I worked to get around the medical and dental communities to educate them about how speech pathology could assist them in their practices. Eventually I was asked to join the Pierce County Dental Seminar as the only non dentist member. That group met monthly and took turns presenting a view of their specialty and how the whole group could work together to utilize that specialty for the benefit of the patient. It was a very successful group.As my practice grew, I was recognized as a fellow by the Northwest Association of Speech Pathologists and also ask to head the Ad Hoc Committee for Private Practice Environments for the Washington State Speech and Hearing Association. Our goal was to set standards for a work environment and help new qualified professionals to start their own private practices. it was a daunting task as we were trying to keep people from setting up in their homes and other unacceptable environments.My practice continued to grow and I also had three children. I sold the practice in 1985 when my children were of the age where they needed a mother at home. It was one of my fondest experiences professionally.
