Overseeing strategy and campaign to build support for the Nuclear Ban Treaty in the US Congress, lobbying and liaising with staff and Members of Congress, producing briefings and reports, organizing events, mobilizing campaigners around the country to write and talk to their representatives. Overseeing lobbying and campaign efforts at the state level in Massachusetts to pass a bill establishing a Citizens Commission to look at how the state responds to the Nuclear Ban Treaty.

Representing Quaker concerns to the EU, Council of Europe and NATO. Responsible for managing a small staff team of 7 and a budget of 450,000 EUR, and for submitting applications and reports to funders and governance bodies. Responsible for revising strategic plan, developing operational plans, revising office systems and procedures and developing a programme for monitoring and evaluation.

Leadership of a national campaign, writing articles, blogs, reports and briefings; lobbying members of MA State House, US Congress, UN ambassadors; running workshops and doing speaking engagements across the country; fundraising, managing staff and volunteers, organizing events. Servicing the Peace Education, Campaigning and Networking Committee of Quakers in Britain, supporting local Quaker peace efforts around the country, speaking to Quaker Meetings, organising workshops and events, representing QPSW on various peace organisations and events, lobbying Members of Parliament. Assessment of Youth Peacemaker project in South Sudan, hiring of staff to run it, liaising with partners globally and in South Sudan, re-designing the project to meet donor requirements and best practices in project design and implementation.

Managing 7 senior staff, 2 offices and 4 country programmes in Sri Lanka, Philippines, South Sudan and Georgia, with a total of 200 staff and total budget of $7.5 million, reporting to and servicing International Governing Council and 50 member organisations, fundraising with major donors, lobbying for recognition by US Congress, UN agencies, the EU and 7 European governments, overseeing communications including website print and e-newsletters, leading strategic planning, budgeting and re-structuring processes, development and implementation of financial and HR policies, public speaking and outreach.

Managing 14 headquarters staff and up to 45 field staff at four field sites, managing budget of $1 million, liaising with Sri Lankan government officials, foreign embassies, UN agencies and local NGOs, overseeing opening and closing of field offices, emergency management of arrests and detentions of human rights activists, liaising with donor agencies and overseeing major fundraising partnership with 5 donor governments. Left to take up position of Executive Director.

Overseeing field programmes of Nonviolent Peaceforce in Sri Lanka and Philippines, supervising Country Directors, developing policies, setting organisational standards, training staff in project cycle management and logical framework analysis, refining and defining the programmatic focus of 3rd generation unarmed civilian peacekeeping. Went to Sri Lanka to cover emergency situation.

Managing the training department of International Alert, including curriculum development and oversight of 5 levels of training courses in the fields of conflict transformation, reintegration of ex-combatants, human security, election observation, gender issues and civil society capacity-building. Also responsible, as coordinator of the European Group on Training (EGT), for developing and negotiating common EU standards in these areas and recruiting people meeting these standards on behalf of the EU, the UK Foreign Office, the Post-Conflict Reconstruction Unit and a number of NGOs based in the UK and abroad. Left to join NP.

Founded and ran own organisation, managing up to 12 staff and volunteers, managing budget of £250K pa, fundraising, advocacy with Foreign Office and EU Council Secretariat, organising and running training courses, outreach and public speaking, strategic planning, organisational development, setting up office systems and procedures, research, editing and design of publications, managing IT systems.
