I’m a highly experienced communications manager with excellent contacts in UK national media and UK politics. I work with national media on a daily basis, and am responsible for protecting and promoting the reputation of a major national organisation, including crisis communications.I currently work in a senior role for the TUC, leading media work on the economy, industrial strategy (including creative industries), corporate governance and public services. I manage the TUC's external communications grid, lead media strategy, create stories and write talking points, bylines and speeches for senior TUC spokespeople.I became interested in communications through postgraduate research on the role of the media in public understanding of science. Following my degrees I have retained an interest in science, technology and philosophy.I am particularly interested in evidence-based communications, drawing on neuroscience, cognitive framing and psychology to develop the most effective strategies for engaging and influencing audiences. I was one of the organisers of a programme of activity for Professor George Lakoff in 2013, whose research on cognitive framing has influenced my approach. And I contributed to the New Economy Organisers Network project on Reframing the Economy, which has had a major impact on public discourse on the economy. While working for members of parliament, I established the All Party Parliamentary Group on Media Literacy - a group for stakeholder relations with MPs to promote the importance of public education in critical media skills. For my next role, I wish to work for a company or organisation that is leading innovation in the arts, science or technology. They should have progressive values and positive stories to tell - both as an employer with a progressive work culture, and an organisation with a mission to improve the quality of people's lives.
