Profile bio

About Tim Oberg

In April 2011 I founded Parkrun Australia. From a single event on the Gold Coast, I helped drive Parkrun’s growth across the country and into New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. I secured major sponsorships including Adidas, Stockland, The Athlete’s Foot & Medibank and built relationships across all levels of Government, including Federal Health Department and Australian Sports Commission. In 11 years I oversaw growth to include over 450 locations in the Asia Pacific region with over 1 million participants (an average of 60,000 every Saturday, including around 5,000 weekly volunteers). In 2014 I was the Founding President of the Active & Healthy Alliance Gold Coast, a strategic partnership that aimed to increase access to health and wellness initiatives on the Gold Coast. In December 2019 I was recognised at the Australian Institute of Sport’s ‘Australian Sports Performance Awards’ for my Service to Sport and in April 2022 joined the Board of the Australian Mass Participation Sporting Events Alliance. In July 2022 I left Parkrun in order to establish a registered charity called Healthy Kids Project. I did this in the belief that all children have the right to grow up in a HEALTHY environment that allows them to PLAY, have FUN and ACHIEVE their full potential. As such, the mission of Healthy Kids Project is to reduce the incidence of sedentary lifestyle diseases and enhance mental health in children. We are achieving this by developing programs and collaborations that positively impact the health of Australian children across the four pillars of: 1. MOVE (physical activity); 2. EAT (healthy food choices); 3. FEEL (emotional wellbeing); and 4. REST (sleep health). In March 2024 I was appointed to the Australian Sports Commission's Play Well Strategy Leadership Group, a 14-person group of experts that will oversee the implementation of the ASC’s new participation strategy and deliver on its vision that ‘everyone has a place in sport’.

Listed skills include Event Management, Public Relations, Social Media, Marketing Communications, and 10 others.
