As a yu di Kòrsou (born in Curaçao), I'm committed to driving positive change and ensuring a sustainable future for our islands. My role involves developing public knowledge infrastructure on climate impacts for the Dutch Caribbean, and to support the identification of potential solutions and co-benefits with sustainable development. At Stichting CAS, we operate by getting local, regional, and Dutch institutions to collaboratively work on a centralized public product: the Climate Impact Atlas. Furthermore, the IPDC operates based on the needs of local government to accelerate climate adaptation, where I am the coordinator for the Dutch Caribbean. Finally, I am a researcher within the Climate Extremes group at VU-IVM. I have a background in physical climate science, with a PhD in 'unseen' weather extremes. With all the crazy weather events we are seeing around the world, we often hear that 'we are being surprised by these events'. Instead, I advocate that the narrative should be that we should better prepare for these events.Feel free to connect and share ideas on how we can further contribute to the preservation of the Caribbean or on preparing for unseen events!
