My role changed many times over the years due to company reorganization. While the majority of my time was spent coding, the other tasks I was assigned changed. At first, I used written specs to customize the software to fit the client's workflows. I would then create documentation that reflected the customization for both the client (user) and our internal support team. My final stop was training the client on the complete software program. I was soon put into the role of team mentor. This enabled me to assist others with their projects, as well as lead training sessions on multiple topics such as coding standards, software updates, and the never-ending changes in the coding world.During the last couple of years, I was transferred to a team that developed proof of concept add-ons to the software. I worked with the client and our team in design, creation, and implementation of these items. We also wrote custom jobs that would make the client's use of our system easier for their workflow.

Initially, I was the entire IT department for this small company, so I became a jack-of-all-trades with Hawkeye. I worked on servers, networking, and updating systems. However, I also did the coding to automate many processes in order to speed up underwriting policies. The biggest project of my career was to write an entire system to handle insurance policies, from rating to billing. I lead a team to finish this in 8 months when it was supposed to take 12 months. I was able to utilize a wide range of my talents in this job. However the company did not survive, and I had to move on.
