The network has a publicly facing interface which supports over 2.5 billion internet transactions a day and a back end network that support a wide range of functions including a 200+ node hadoop cluster. These responsibilities included major changes to the network management systems, scaling the network to support a 300% increase of the network traffic, and converting a cloud presence into a physical datacenter. Changes included upgrades to hardware and software, as well as, significant customization of the monitoring systems. Technologies used included: OpenNMS, customized SNMP polling and events, NFSen and NFdump, IPPlan, IPSEC, and Fortinet firewalls.The company’s substantial growth had also significantly increased the expenses at the cloud sites, making it cost effective to convert the cloud presence into a physical data center. This led to the design and creation of the company’s west coast data center; consisting of two full racks of fully redundant systems, two different service providers, and out-of-band management access. NASA’s IP networks combine to form a world-wide communications network spanning the globe from Norway to McMurdo with over 700 nodes. These networks are designed with high levels of redundancy and diversity to maximize reliability and availability. They include Cisco, Nortel, and Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls; using a combination of OSPF, RIP, BGP, and MPLS. NASA’s IP networks combine to form a world-wide communications network spanning the globe from Norway to McMurdo with over 700 nodes. These networks are designed with high levels of redundancy and diversity to maximize reliability and availability. They include Cisco, Nortel, and Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls; using a combination of OSPF, RIP, BGP, and MPLS. Some of the mission critical data (e.g. satellite command and telemetry) is delivered via multicast. Multicast services are provided by a combination of PIM, SSM and MOSPF. As the lead engineer for local engineering, Mr. Clark’s responsibilities include:− Evaluate all new requirements, coordinating directly with the team and the customer− Allocate the work among the engineering team as appropriate− Track the status of the work and report to the government customer− Responsible for scheduling engineering support for operational requirements, including the regular weekly rotation of on call engineers and all critical events (e.g. shuttle launch and landing, EVAs, ISS dockings, etc.)− Meet with customer to negotiate requirements, schedule activities, and provide status Show less
