    Worked as a Professional Engineering (Range-D - T.E. Civil) Lead Worker in Caltrans' Culvert Inspection Program (CIP). As part of a statewide database collection of all highway drainage culverts, the CIP identifies and recommends rehabilitation needed to avoid culvert failures such as sinkholes. Typical duties included: maintaining the quality and integrity of data during collection, processing, and storage; researching information through as-builts; supervising, delegating assignments, and training two (2) transportation engineering technicians; providing assistance/support by joining in fieldwork with inspectors; requesting funding and purchasing equipment; holding safety meetings; performing pre-operational inspections and scheduling vehicle maintenance; and evaluating performance via monthly counts of culvert inspections, then reporting them to our headquarters in Sacramento. Program highlights (District 11 - San Diego and Imperial County):- Received Superior Accomplishment Award (February 2013).- Started an on-line flex viewer to share data collection, photographs, and drainage information with other functional divisions.- Georeferencing as-builts plans along every interstate and state route in our district- Pre-inspection database from as-builts to map our existing drainage, schedule inspections ahead of time, find drainage features in the field, and identify problem areas/materials (metal vs concrete), that added to our monthly required inspection numbers.- Real-time data correction in the field - with multiple data collectors.- GIS maps for each route inspected with photographs identifying troubled areas and locations of drainage features for field personnel.- Two (2) Project Initiation Documents (PIDs) for rehabilitating culverts produced solely on our inspections, in addition to our daily inspections. This was one of the first PIDs to be created within the CIP, and was accomplished in less time due to the groups familiarity with the culverts.
