taught people how to build power through community to make lasting, permanent positive change in politics and in the community including the construction of Dupont Commons (a 147-unit affordable housing development); renovation of Parkway Overlook (220-unit affordable rental) public housing that enabled residents to return to the renovated units; accelerated funding and construction of a new Fort Stanton Recreation Center; construction of Mary Virginia Merrick Center; and renovation of 6 public high school outdoor stadiums across the city. All accomplished by discovering and developing leaders who engaged in public communal action to address their community interests. Work in building the community continues since leaving WIN in December 2009.

Author, Going to the Well to Build Community: A Pastor’s Guide to Evangelization, a prescriptive guide on building relationships to build community in and beyond the church. Was a featured guest columnist for Prince George’s Journal, highlighting the use of organizing principles for the common good, especially in public schools; frequent contributor to US Coast Guard Academy Alumni Bulletin, the Josephite Harvest, and the Black Catholic Messenger.

19th African American USCG Academy graduate, 6th Black to command a large cutter, mentor to Academy and OCS grads who achieved flag rank and served with distinction in other capacities in the Service. Frequent contributor to the Alumni Bulletin to create enthusiasm for the Service to attract and retain quality candidates from minority communities to enhance mission performance. Founding member of the Academy’s Genesis Multi-Cultural Club and 50 years of promoting diversity at the Academy and in the Service to enhance mission performance.
