Waiter / ManagerGreenhouse Cafe May 2011 - Jun 2016Solvang, CaliforniaDuring my years at the Greenhouse Café, I spent time as a bus boy, dishwasher, host, server/waiter and would start learning the roles of “co-manager”. As a bus boy, I would walk typically walk around filling up people’s coffee and if I were to see dishes on someone’s table that are no longer in use, I would communicate whether or not if I could take the dish. I would also clean tables and do inventory for the items we would need to restock. As a host, I would greet whoever came into the restaurant to eat or get something to drink once they were ready to listen. If the customer seemed confused, I would politely ask if they would need my assistance. From there I would show them to the table and hand them menus. As a host, I would also be the one to take people’s checks when they were ready to pay.As a server/waiter, I would ask the customers for drink and potential food orders. Occasionally, I would come back to my customers table to check in on their experience and if they would like anything else to satisfy their needs.I would also spend time on learning how to be a co-manager at the Greenhouse Café. My boss and manager would teach me how to make employee schedules for upcoming weeks, count the cash at the end of every day, open and close the restaurant, as well as be in charge of the restaurant without a manager or owner present. All of these positions were over a span of 5 years. It had taken me until 2014 to become a waiter. Most of our customers were tourists mostly coming from outside customers of the United States, such as Denmark, Germany, Sweden, and China.
