Sustainability is my passion and profession. As Head of Corporate Affairs at Werner & Mertz I am committed to better recycling for the sake of a more sustainable human lifestyle.With our scheme ‘Recyclat Initiative’ we are working towards a significant increase of post-consumer recyclates in product packaging. Taken from ‘Gelber Sack’ (yellow bag) and ‘Gelbe Tonne’ (yellow bin) – the two containers German households collect post-consumer plastics in – innovative sorting technologies process the raw material so that it can be up-cycled.I would like to see a clear commitment and plastic policy from national as well as from European policymakers. We need effective incentives for plastic-using businesses and consumers likewise. Environmentally-friendly production using post-consumer recyclates as well as sustainable plastic consumption must be rewarded. On the other hand tax breaks granted for the use of crude oil in the plastics production have to be stopped.Only then will we be in the position to effectively get the recycling of plastic packaging going.
