Most people don't like public speaking, but I have always loved it. It really is a gift for introverts to be given a topic and a time limit. And then we get to practice as much as we want. Really, it's an ideal scenario for people who want to communicate in a meaningful way.I'm an author and a public speaker. I left my job as a dean at Walters State Community College so I would have more time for those things and to do church work.Typically, I speak at rotary clubs, schools, and churches. My favorite speakers have something meaningful and thought-provoking to say, but they also have humor and enthusiasm. Since those things resonate with me, those are the things I always try to bring to the table.One of my favorite topics to talk about is overcoming adversity, using stories about presidents to make my points. Another fun topic is this: how to get a book written. Lots of people think it would be cool to write a book, but how do you go from wishing it to making it so? I've had more than a dozen books published, including "Devotions for a New Day," "Devotions with Presidents, "Presidential Stories," "Presidential Trivia," and "Ask the Professors: Keys to College Success." I've learned a few things along the way.Finally, sometimes I give advice to high school students on how to be successful in college. Since I taught for years in both high school and college, I have seen the challenges here from both points of view.It would be awesome to talk about how great Japanese food is, but I haven't been able to find any "Public Speaking for Japanese Food Lovers" venues yet.Contact Info: TimothyDHolder@gmail.com
