Tim is global co-leader of Sidley’s White Collar Defense and Investigations practice which was ranked #2 in the world for cross-border investigations in 2024 by Global Investigations Review. He is a former federal prosecutor who brings a practical, problem-solving approach and more than 25 years of experience to investigations and the defense of leading companies and executives in federal court proceedings and before federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and its United States Attorney's Offices, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other federal civil enforcement agencies (FinCEN, OFAC, and BIS), banking regulators (Federal Reserve, OCC, and NYDFS), and state attorneys general. Tim represents clients in a variety of industries, including financial services, insurance, life sciences, energy, and technology, and often manages parallel criminal and civil proceedings and multijurisdictional matters involving foreign government agencies. He has helped many clients avoid adverse consequences in enforcement actions and has negotiated favorable dispositions with a range of agencies. Tim advises companies on the development of internal compliance programs and counsels clients on compliance issues, particularly in the financial services industry, or where there are national security implications, including in the areas of anti-money laundering (AML), including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and anti-corruption (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)).
