The 97th Mission Support Group is the largest and most diverse team at Altus Air Force Base, comprised of more than 1,173 military and civilian personnel across six diverse Squadrons.  Our six units embody the “Sleeves Up…Hands Dirty” motto and provide mission support for our nation's air mobility training mission and decisive combat capabilities.  The Group supports the installation’s C-17, KC-135 and KC-46 aircraft operational and training missions as well as base wide infrastructure support activities to include communications, civil engineers, law enforcement, force protection, fire and emergency services, contracting, disaster response, environmental services, lodging, transportation, recreation, supply, education, mobility, installation management, food service as well as family and personnel support.

Led 294 military and civilian Engineers across 10 functional elements. Guided sustainment of $4.2 billion military installation, infrastructure systems modernization, facility maintenance and repair on 789 facilities, and grounds maintenance across 7,200 acres of real property and protected wetlands.

Drove readiness reporting across 13 Air Force Civil Engineer squadrons, assisted with Combatant Commander Operational Planning. Validated combat readiness for Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff driven deployment taskings across 9 Air Force Wings in support of 5 Component Commands. Coordinated with Department of Defense and international agencies on humanitarian, joint exercises and contingency mission planning and execution.

The 56th Civil Engineer Squadron--also known as the Dragonslayers- provide technically sound combat engineers to build, sustain, and protect Luke AFB through engineering and emergency response services.  They are organized into six flights consisting of 350 personnel, and support $2B in infrastructure, $4.8B of aircraft, 1,043 facilities, and the 1.7 million acre Barry M. Goldwater Range.  The Fire & Emergency Services Flight provides first class emergency response services for medical, structural and aircraft to the base populace.  The Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight provides the best trained and equipped technicians to safely accomplish stateside and wartime tasking's, maintains 24-hour emergency response capability, neutralizes explosive threats to personnel and property, and provides special mission support teams worldwide.  The Readiness & Emergency Management flight prepares and equips the Wing to support peacetime and wartime contingencies.  The Installation Management flight protects the environment, provides quality housing, accounts for wing real estate, and provides unit cost accounting and IT services.  The Operations flight maintains and sustains base infrastructure, facilities, and real property assets. The Engineering flight develops future base plans, programs capital projects, and oversees the design, construction and repair of base assets.

The 35th Civil Engineer Squadron, the Dragon Slayers, is known as a "Can Do" unit with an outstanding reputation. The daily ops tempo is very high due to the nearly 800-person (300 mil, 21 US civ, 470 JN civ) workforce and $80-$90M annual CE budget. Approximately $50M to $60M of this amount is Host Nation funding for new facility construction and utility reconstruction. With these resources, we make things happen constantly for our installation.
