PhD Student“Discovery and characterization of small bioactive peptides from Australian elapid venom”.Transcriptome and proteome analysis of four Australian elapid snakes. Identification and sequencing of a myriad of isoforms for a number of toxin families using laboratory developed algorithms for large database analysis. Involved mRNA extraction from venom glands; transcriptome sequencing using Next Generation Sequencing; venom protein/peptide characterization using RPHPLC and LC-MS/MS; extensive use of TTOF 5600 and Protein Pilot software.Developed and demonstrated extensive skills in qualitative, quantitative, analytical and technical aspects of mass spectrometry and associated chromatographic and solid phase extraction techniques (SCIEX TTOF 5600, SCIEX QTRAP 5500, API 4000, API 2000, QSTAR Pulsar, QSTAR Pulsar XL, QSTAR Elite, MALDI 4700; Shimadzu LC).
