Timothy Rogers won a major music scholarship to St Edward’s, Oxford, before reading music at Cardiff University and later studying at the Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi Christian University, Miami, Florida, USA. He holds BMus and MA degrees and has also been awarded the Fellowship diplomas of Trinity College London and the London College of Music. He has followed a career in publishing, working for Banks Music Publications, Novello, Music Sales, The Royal School of Church Music and Walker Books. In 1987, he became one of the youngest composers in OUP's ‘Carols for Choirs’ series, edited by Sir David Willcocks and Sir John Rutter. His music is also published by Encore Publications, Stainer & Bell Ltd, RSCM and LCM Examinations. His choral works have been performed in the UK by the choirs of Chelmsford, Coventry, Ely, Gloucester, Llandaff, Norwich and Portsmouth Cathedrals, and overseas at Cathedrals in Canada and Hong Kong, while his organ music has been played in venues including Exeter, Llandaff and St Paul’s Cathedral, London, and York Minster. Some compositions have also been broadcast on BBC radio. In 1992, he set up his own independent music publishing company, Encore Publications, and now works as its Head of Publishing. The catalogue includes choral music by Sir Stephen Cleobury and Sir Philip Ledger, as well as hymn arrangements which have featured in three Royal weddings, the funeral of HRH The Prince Philip, the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. He is the publisher of a hymn, ‘Hope’, based on words by Archbishop Justin Welby and set to music by Sarah MacDonald. He publishes Philip Moore’s ‘Via Crucis’, which was widely used as a devotion for Passiontide in 2021 and 2022. Together with Sarah MacDonald, he compiled and edited ‘Carols of Our Time’, an anthology of Christmas hymns and carols by women composers, first published in 2023. He is also the author of a book, ‘Christmas Eve at King’s: 100 Years of Nine Lessons & Carols’. He complements and refreshes this core activity with a portfolio of freelance jobs involving contracts, licensing, marketing and editorial work. He is an examiner in music for LCME at the University of West London and has worked in China, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Macau, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore and Turkey. Since 2013, he has worked as a judge for the John Sanders Memorial Competition for Young Composers.
