About Timothy Watts
As a business leader, I see my role as elevating those I lead. Our stories should not simply be about the problems we’ve solved, but rather about the people we have learned from and those we have helped along the way. My background has given me a strong foundation in engineering and team leadership and my experiences during my MBA at Carnegie Mellon University have helped me to hone my business acumen and strategic perspective. Though I appreciate the technical skills I have accumulated, I have come to understand how my career path has helped me to become an excellent split-level communicator and have learned how to leverage this ability to align teams of varying levels of technical proficiency, strategic understanding, or English fluency on what matters most. In this way, I work to put people at the center of my priority and focus the people on the problems we are trying to solve. My resume below can speak for itself and so I’d like to introduce who I am on a personal level.I am first and foremost a husband to an amazing women and father to a wonderful daughter. I have learned the importance of honesty and honor as both, and I strive every day to be a man they can trust and lean on. I work to embody these in my professional life and find true joy in being there for those who rely on me.I am a dreamer and an optimist. In my mind, no accomplishment is out of reach, no dream is too big. I find energy and excitement in chasing down ideas, chatting about creativity, and listening to the hopes of others. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone light up while they describe what they hope to accomplish.I am a hobbyist chef who gets lost in the attention to detail which cooking requires. Food is my main form of connection, and I thrive on bringing people together around a good meal. Please reach out if you would like to talk about anything: questions on transitioning from engineering to business, job openings, the best meal you’ve had, or even life in general. All is fair game, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Mba Candidate
Current
Retail Solutions Consultant (Business Development)
On the day to day I managed technical and engineering functions for Dematic's micro fulfillment business development team. I coordinated internally with multiple departments including R&D, Engineering Execution , Training and Documentation, and Sales teams to define standardization efforts, product direction, and message alignment for the organization. In this role my customers were both internal and external to Dematic. As a Solutions Consultant, I provided feedback from external customers to the internal engineering department to ensure Dematic had the knowledge they needed to design systems which accounted for customers' needs. As the micro fulfillment business development team discovered how the market was changing, I helped position our technology to account for the evolving demands. For external customers, I synthesized knowledge of the market with capabilities of our automation to provide them with key information to help them understand how Dematic's solution could fit within their operations.
Super User (Technical Product Manager)
As the first ever Dematic Super User, I led the development of the program for Dematic. Leading by influence and example I spearheaded a project in which I worked onsite with a customer to build a Micro Fulfillment operation. To do this I worked as the single point liaison between the customers operational team and Dematic. I gathered customer requirements directly from users of the system and translated them into technical solutions, managing the development and testing of all new features. I helped to define operational procedures for how store operators could efficiently integrate automation and manual efforts and defined improvement to the user experience with Dematic's system. The effort involved helped the customer see 325% improvement in order output. This position gave me valuable insight into how mechatronic systems are incomplete without people to run them. It is the interaction between operators and the machine that drives success in operations. This philosophy has challenged me to think differently on how to design systems. It is the critical in automation to design systems that encourage interaction through approachability. Automation needs to make our lives easier, not more complex.
Software Engineer
I applied and was accepted into an internal Engineering Rotational program which provides high-potential engineers broader knowledge of company solutions. In this rotation, I implemented, tested, and deployed code for warehouse management software platform. During this opportunity I was able to use my existing knowledge of the Dematic project life cycle as well as my new experience of being onboarded into the software group to help define an initiative which would accelerate future engineers path to value add work. In parallel with my own software training and day to day work, I led a team of 6 engineers in developing and releasing this updated onboarding training. The Software group has since seen marked improvement in execution readiness and new engineers have felt more secure in their knowledge of the scope of their work and where their work fits within the project.
Controls Engineer - Amcap Global Subject Matter Expert
Served as global project SME and controls project lead for highly integrated Automated-Mixed-Case-Palletizing (AMCAP) solution, Coordinated simultaneous projects valued at over $200M.This was a move that was as transformative for me personally as it was engaging for me professionally. The work involved was rigorous as my team had to adjust to standardization demands and project delays. I was tasked with onboarding engineers from Dematic's Southern Europe to the AMCAP solution which had been developed in a then-obsolete coding standard. The team brought the code up to date and reworked the controls architecture to fit to Dematic's global standard. I defined testing and emulation protocols that allowed the team to iron out the code during a project delay, Despite many setbacks our team was able to handover the system for integration testing well before our deadline.
Controls Engineer
Developed and commissioned a large-scale highly-integrated Automated Mixed Case Palletizing system near Brussels Belgium valued at over $150 Million. Performed electrical commissioning work along with software and hardware debugging. Also worked as task leader for the project within a multi-cultural team including nationalities from Germany, France, Spain, Egypt, Lithuania, and Australia. Successfully delivered the system for integration testing. My first time living abroad brought both difficulty and success in my personal and professional development. At the same time I was learning how to integrate within a foreign culture I was learning how to speak and understand German, commissioning a site which was well behind its installation schedule (the garage doors weren't even on in January when I began my work), as well as creating commissioning guides to help us track progress during extreme variability in our schedule. I learned how exciting work could be when a diverse group of people all came together to tackle something really difficult.
