Tim Sutherland was the founder, chairman and CEO of Pace Global Energy Services, LLC, a global energy consulting and management firm that was established in 1976. In December 2011, Siemens Industries acquired Pace Global.While serving as CEO, Pace Global maintained long-term relationships in the U.S. and abroad with clients in the manufacturing, material processing, financial, cities and infrastructure development sectors. Over 40 percent of the organization’s clients were Fortune 500 enterprises.Mr. Sutherland has client advisory experience in Europe, Russia, the U.S., the Middle East, China and Latin America. Mr. Sutherland currently serves as Chairman of Middleburg Capital Development (MCD). MCD is a private equity investment firm founded in 2012 with assets under management across a range of business sectors, including new technologies, core manufacturing and solar energy. Mr. Sutherland serves as a Fellow for the University of Notre Dame and has been a Trustee of the University since 2013. In 2022, Mr. Sutherland was named Executive Chairman of Inovateus Solar, a solar development and finance company, located in South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Sutherland also serves on the boards of many of the MCD investment companies.Mr. Sutherland holds a B.A. from Knox College and an M.B.A. degree from New York University. He served on the Board of Directors at Saint Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware and served as the Chair of The Hill School in Middleburg, Virginia for nine years. He also served as Vice-Chair for Notre Dame Academy of Middleburg, Virginia. Mr. Sutherland has been named the 2013 Alumnus of the Year for Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Sutherland received the 2020 Distinguished Graduate Award from St.Pius/St. Leo School of Omaha and also is being named the 2020 Dr. William P. Sexton Award that "honors non-alumni of Notre Dame who have contributed outstanding service to the University and whose lives exemplify the spirit of the University." Mr. Sutherland earned his second degree Black Belt in Taekwondo in 2022 and was awarded and Honorary Master of Taekwondo for his commitment to the sport.Mr. Sutherland lives in Middleburg, Virginia with Martha Sutherland, his wife of 48 years. They have two grown children, Cristin Wipfler (ND’02) and David Sutherland, (ND ’02 ’10). They celebrate the blessings of their grandchildren, Liam David Wipfler, Olivia Wipfler, Lillian Sutherland and Connor Sutherland.
