Botanist with wide-ranging plant identification knowledge coupled with proven taxonomic, teaching and editing skills, passionate about exploring, documenting and conserving tropical rainforests. Strengths include leadership, international collaboration, enthusiastic communicator developing and running botanical training courses, as well as working at a strategic level. Successful team and project management experience, leading externally funded projects, editorial skills as Editor-in-Chief of Gardens’ Bulletin Singapore, Kew Bulletin and Editor of Thai Forest Bulletin, running floristic projects including remote expeditions and leading several cross-cutting research programmes.From school, Tim did a sandwich degree in Applied Biology at the University of Greenwich and secured a placement year at RBG Kew on their Brunei programme. After his first degree, Tim received a scholarship to do an MSc at Reading University followed by a PhD scholarship at the University of Hong Kong and worked at Kew from February 1999 to November 2023 before moving to Singapore Botanic Gardens. Specialising on the plant diversity of SE Asia, especially New Guinea (the world’s largest and most species-rich tropical island) - critical for conserving the world’s plants for future generations at this time of biodiversity loss.
