Experience/Responsibilities:• Specialize in the formulation, make-up, application and functional performance of over 50 separate paper coatings. These coatings drive the quality of over 250 different specialty paper products across five in-line coaters on three paper machines.• Lead full-scale production trials (50+ to date) encompassing new materials, dyes, coatings, and paper products, supporting new product development and quality improvement initiatives.• Provide off hours On-Call Support for the Material Prep department.• Troubleshoot daily quality and runnability problems in Paper Production and Material Prep departments.• Responsible for traveling to customer sites to ensure quality, learn about product end-use, and understand downstream processes.• Perform annual calculations for VOC content of all water-borne coatings produced per ISO 14001.Projects:Six Sigma:• Trained in Six Sigma Methodologies – Black Belt Coursework through SigMax (Fall 2016).• Experience in Design of Experiments, Measurement System Analysis, FMEA, Capability Analysis and Specification Development.• Utilized 2x2 Full Factorial DoEs to improve the quality and cost efficiency of base coated products.Raw Materials:• Lead the Mill-Side support of several projects by transitioning key coating materials to new suppliers, designs, and specifications.• Represents the Mill interests in talks with R&D, Marketing, and Procurement.• Completed conversion to a new coating binder, saving over 150K annually while maintaining high product quality.• Work closely with chemical vendors on issues relating to the quality of materials we receive.
