Upon completion of my doctorate I began work studying the kinetics and dynamics of e-cigarette aerosol. Specially we investigated the kinetics of glycerol and the gas/particle partitioning of constituents of the plume. To this end I designed and constructed a temperature/humidity controlled tandem differential mobility analyzer. After completing the glycerol analysis, the work pivoted to understanding the partitioning of nicotine between the gas and particle phase in e-cigarette aerosol. For this work, I constructed, tested, and validated a temperature controlled denuder tube to quantify the partitioning of nicotine in model e-liquids and off the shelf products under different conditions and device morphology. My doctoral work focused on the development and deployment of a new instrument to investigate the role of ice nuclei aerosols in atmospheric processes. This is accomplished by sampling particles and examining at what temperature they induce freezing in cloud sized water droplets. Verification and development of test protocols formed a key part of my first two publications. My research necessitated the creation of an automated data analysis algorithm which allowed for upwards of a ten-fold increase in the data acquired when compared to similar instruments. After laboratory tests were completed, the instrument was used to measure atmospheric ice nuclei concentrations, specifically by investigating pollen emissions and the role they play in cloud processes. To complete this, I organized and led a small team of undergraduates to help collect and process data. We then expanded the investigation to include a single particle UV fluorescence instrument to analyze fluorescing biological particles surrounding precipitation events.I recently left my position as the Southeast Regional Sales Manager for TSI Incorporated in the Research & Analytics division. Our division was responsible for the portfolio of instruments related to aerosol production and detection equipment used for scientific analysis. My duties included understanding and operating the equipment, informing customers about instrument operation and integration into their research work, and general maintenance of the equipment.

Postdoctoral ResearcherNorth Carolina State University Oct 2014 - May 2019Raleigh, Nc• Designed, constructed, and tested a temperature controlled hygroscopicity/volatility tandem differential mobility analyzer to measure the evaporation kinetics and hygroscopic growth of glycerol aerosol. System involved cooling of aerosol upon production to stabilize evaporation and temperature controlling analysis section to investigate temperature/humidity effects [https://doi.org/10.1080/02786826.2016.1245405]• Designed, constructed, and tested a temperature controlled denuder tube system to analyze gas phase partitioning from e-cigarettes. Components included a e-cigarette puffing system that triggered devices via pneumatic and electrical methods, temperature controlled water bath for nicotine collection tube, and software package to control and monitor the system. Analysis happened offline via gas chromatography.

Research AssistantNorth Carolina State University Dept Meas Aug 2011 - Oct 2014Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina AreaDesigned and constructed a drop freezing assay to measure the concentration of ice nuclei in sample water. Construction included the use of feedback control systems to regulate the temperature and optical microscopy to collect the data.Implemented a drop freezing detection algorithm to process images recorded through the drop freezing assay. Software logs detected freeze events and calculates temperature drop froze as well as size and position of the drop. Software is accompanied with a user guided interface to verify algorithm accuracy.Managed a small team of undergraduate research assistants in the collection and processing of in lab samples for instrument verification as well as the collection of field samples of precipitation. -
