Sr. Software Engineer, ContractorBinx Health Oct 2019 - Apr 2020Boston, Massachusetts, Usbinx is a wonderful small startup with super potential that needed an application developer once their device received FDA approval and CE mark. My job was to refactor and drive the future of what the on-board and peripheral software for their io medical device will be. After a reliability release cycle, I did analysis and brought the different weighted options to management, and decided on a suitable and modern path. We chose to transform the device from a stand-alone device towards an IoT device. I accomplished a .NET upgrade from 3.5 to .NET Core/Standard for security and modern tool set. Next an OS upgrade from WES7 to Win 10 IoT Core, and an analysis on all the available tooling including cloud options. The OS choice required a rewrite of the device’s view layer from WinForms to UWP, plus any application input/output such as filesystem usage and serial port usage. I made some good implementation headway here, but then the company had to make the most unfortunate decision to put on hold all engineering funding to wait out the current economic situation with the pandemic. I also acted as the device tech for the Boston office, disassembling and assembling some binx _io_ devices for hardware debugging and SBC swap. I have a special love and learned so much at binx, growing quite the appetite for building things that make a difference in the world. -
