As someone who learned the insurance claims business from the ground up, I found my initial role challenging and stressful because there was much to learn, the nuances of the negotiation and settlement processes were invariably complicated and every case had to be settled within demanding time constraints. As my knowledge and experience grew, so did my caseload, and I found that the challenges I met were rewarded with advancement opportunities.Once I became a supervisor and then a manager, I treated those who reported to me as I had been treated: with patience, support and respect. By coaching and developing those who reported to me, I not only played a role in helping others reap similar career benefits, but and I also helped my employer fulfill its mission and goals. I trained and developed numerous high-performing employees for expanded roles and increased contribution during over 19 years as Casualty Claim Desk Manager with American Family Insurance. In recent years, I encouraged several of the claims adjusters under my supervision to embrace expanded opportunities that came with advanced training and responsibility.
