CurrentThe Criminal Investigations Division (CID) protects human life and property by enforcing state laws relating to narcotic trafficking, organized crime, intelligence, vehicle theft, gangs, computer and financial crimes, and fugitive apprehension. CID provides vital support to Arizona and its citizens by: conducting criminal and administrative investigations for other agencies, hosting and participating in regional task forces, operating the Arizona Counter-Terrorism Information Center (ACTIC) and providing tactical high-risk responses to acts of extraordinary violence and domestic preparedness incidents. Assistant Director - Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force
The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force Division (CVETF) is comprised of uniformed sworn personnel and professional staff from the Arizona Department of Transportation's (ADOT) Enforcement Services Bureau (ESB) and the Department of Public Safety's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau (CVEB). The mission of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force is to ensure safe, secure, and efficient commercial transport across Arizona. The CVETF combines enforcement, training, and public outreach to reduce Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)-related collisions, fatalities, and injuries through consistent, uniform, and effective CMV programsThe ADOT Enforcement Services Bureau is responsible for protecting Arizona's infrastructure by conducting commercial vehicle enforcement operations at 22 fixed ports of entry, including ports of entry located along the international border with Mexico at San Luis, Nogales, and Douglas. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau consists of two districts that conduct commercial vehicle enforcement through roadside traffic stops and administrative investigations. Additionally, the CVEB inspects and certifies tow trucks and school buses, as well as provides certification for school bus drivers.
Assistant Director - Technical Services Division
The Technical Services Division operates on an appropriated budget of $46 million and is comprised of nearly 600 very dedicated and committed sworn and professional employees. The TSD is responsible for developing and coordinating scientific, technical, regulatory and support services essential to the promotion of public safety in Arizona. Special attention is given to providing scientific analysis and criminal justice support to Arizona’s criminal justice agencies. The TSD further develops, operates and maintains the data processing and data/voice communications systems that operate statewide.The TSD is comprised of the following major sections: Scientific Analysis, Information Technology, Criminal Justice Support, Licensing and Regulatory, Wireless Systems and Operational Communications. Currently a Governor-appointed member of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council, SEARCH, the National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics and the FirstNet State Single Point of Contact; serves as Arizona's Nlets representative and FBI Criminal Justice Information System Security Officer.
Assistant Director - Criminal Investigations Division
In June 2012, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and appointed as Assistant Director of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). Responsible for leading and managing over 480 positions within the agency’s CID which is comprised of three bureaus: the Intelligence Bureau; the Investigations Bureau, and the Gang Enforcement Bureau. CID has an overall budget of $57.4 million.The CID is committed to providing the highest quality investigative and specialized response services to the public and the criminal justice community. The CID conducts statewide investigations, specialized enforcement activities, and high-risk tactical response in support of municipal, county, state, federal and tribal criminal justice agencies. The CID’s primary investigative responsibilities are intelligence, organized crime, narcotic trafficking, fugitive apprehension, vehicle theft, gangs, human smuggling, computer and financial crimes, as well as conducting criminal, administrative, and politically sensitive investigations when requested by other criminal justice agencies. The CID includes the Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission (GIITEM), the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force (AVTTF), and the Arizona Counterterrorism Information Center (ACTIC).Currently a Governor-appointed member of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council, Central Region, and Arizona Human Trafficking Council. And, served as the Secretary for the Board of Directors of the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies (ASCIA).
